Literature Text

Night was settling on the land and Renee's legs began to quake in exhaustion. She had been wondering the forest for hours, wasting an entire day. Finally she decided it pointless to continue blindly any further and started looking around for a comfortable place to rest. I should be far enough from Black Water that no one will find me. She thought confidently. Though, everyone assumes I'm dead so there is no point for them to walk out this far from town. She chuckled at the thought of their fear. Everyone of Black Water was superstitious and it was only a matter of time before they questioned the pale, quiet girl with violet eyes. Renee never understood why she looked the way she did but, when she asked Lorena about it she would just say that Renee should be proud of who she was and that the opinions of others meant nothing. "But their opinions and beliefs are what caused you to die..." Renee said frustrated. She had done nothing wrong from what she could remember. She always did as she was told and went out of her way to help others. But there was always a hesitance from people. No one wanted to be around her for too long and no one would look her in the eye. As if they believed having a visual connection with her would cause disaster.
"Stop dwelling on the past! I can't move on if I don't let go." Renee told herself sternly as she gripped her head. "OK sleep. I need to sleep."
Taking a deep breath to relax she slowly lowered herself against a tree she had been leaning on unknowingly. She was just lingering on the border of sweet sleep when a crack of thunder broke the air.

"Just PERFECT!" A voice yelled out. This caused more alarm to Renee than the incoming storm. There shouldn't be people here! She thought franticly. Cautiously she looked around her tree to see two girls walking a long since used path just inches away from her.
"Oh come on  a little rain never hurt anyone." A girl with a large blue bow in her hair had said with a smile.
"I hate being wet." The second girl had responded, she no doubt was the one who yelled earlier.
"What are you a cat?" Bow girl said with a laugh.
"You never know." The second girl said jokingly and pretended to claw at her friend while meowing.
"Ha ha ha, stop that tickles Kae!" But the second girl kept at it until Bow girl pulled out a stick from her back pocket. "Don't make me have to really turn you into a cat!" She said with a evil grin. "You could be my pet for a few days."
"Ok ok June, I'll stop." Kae said pulling her hands away, "Fun killer." She added while sticking her tongue out.
"Well this 'fun killer' was going to get you to your house faster so you wouldn't have to suffer in the rain." June said a bit offended by her friends words.
"I don't think flying in a storm is one of your brighter ideas..." Kae replied nervously looking to the sky. Fly? Renee's head tilted to the side in confusion. These girls were puzzling.
"But I learned a teleportation spell, please let me test it out!" June pleaded but Kae stood firm.
"You're still learning. I don't think you're at the stage for human testing..." Kae tried to put her down as nice as possible but June kept protesting that she was sure it would be ok. "Alright, how about this. Let's have a race to my house and if you beat me, we will try out your new teleportation spell before you have to go to school for the year. You can even spend the night at my place so you don't have to travel back home in the storm. OK? Alright, ReadySetGo!" And Kae took off as fast as possible before June had time to respond.
"No fair, you're so much faster!" June had whined but rushed off after her friend either way. Leaving Renee to ponder over all that just happened.

"Flying, spell casting, teleportation? These people are crazy! But they said school...I forgot I will have to enroll somewhere new now. And she said June would be gone for a year, must be a boarding school. Well at least it would give me a place to stay for a year. This must be a sign, I need to follow them!" With that last thought in mind, Renee headed off in the direction of the girls. Their laughter and footsteps were light but just loud enough for Renee to keep track of them.

Once they had reached Kae's House Renee made a point to fall back and hide in an abandoned house across the street. She had already used the last of her emergency adrenaline energy and had no more effort to move. Collapsing right after closing the front door, Renee didn't wake up again until the next morning.
